MTV to Premiere New Season of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ in January: What to Expect

The kids of Teen Mom are turning 16. The revelation has made many viewers feel old, but MTV is leaning into the concept. The network recently released a trailer for the franchise’s “Sweet 16” season. Teen Mom: The Next Chapter season 2B is returning sooner than expected, and plenty of drama should be covered. Broken engagement, custody drama, and legal issues will likely be included in the upcoming season.

‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ is returning in January

MTV offered its viewers a little early Christmas gift. On December 20, the network dropped a surprise trailer for season 2B of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. Along with the trailer, MTV proclaimed the upcoming season’s official release date. Fans can tune in for a brand new season on January 30, 2025.

It is still unclear how many episodes will be included in season 2B, but it looks like filming will pick up where season 2A left off and include footage that is pretty close to the present day. Bentley Edwards and Leah Shirley’s 16th birthdays factor into the trailer. The teens, the oldest Teen Mom kids, turned 16 on October 27 and November 12, respectively.

What can we expect to see in the upcoming season?

While MTV released a trailer for the upcoming season, the network was careful not to give too much away in the upload. We didn’t get to see any dramatic clips, but there are sure to be plenty of them. Amber Portwood recently took to TikTok to suggest fans will see her battle with her ex, Gary Shirley, over their shared daughter, Leah Shirley. Fans will likely see more of Portwood’s recent heartbreak unfold, too. Portwood’s fiance, Gary Wayt, disappeared over the summer only to turn up perfectly safe and sound. MTV covered the fallout from the failed engagement in the final moments of season 2A.

Viewers are likely to see more drama from Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra, as well. They have spent the brief break on Instagram, denouncing adoption and throwing shade at their oldest biological child’s adoptive parents. Ashley Jones and Cheyenne Floyd are also set to return. Maci Bookout and Briana DeJesus both appeared in the trailer, too. Also set to return is Mackenzie Douthit, who is currently on a fertility journey with her fiance.

Who is missing from ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ Season 2B?

While the old favorites will all be back to share more moments from their lives, a few stars are missing from the most recent trailer. Jenelle Evans, whose return was expected to bolster ratings during the first half of season 2, is not returning for the second half. Evans reportedly insisted on having her boyfriend, August Keen, billed as such, leading MTV to part ways with Evans yet again. The Ashley Reality Roundup Group reported that the network was hoping for a redemption arc from Evans after her split from David Eason. They didn’t get it.

Jade Cline wasn’t spotted in the trailer either, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be included in the season. Cline, who first appeared on Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant, shared the trailer on Instagram. Her decision to share the trailer likely means she has filmed, although it’s unclear what her storyline could possibly be.

Teen Mom star Mackenzie Standifer took to TikTok earlier this week to insist she’s not stalling her divorce or interrupting Ryan Edwards’s parenting time. While Edwards has lambasted his soon-to-be ex-wife, claiming she’s keeping their shared children away from him, that appears to be far from the truth. An insider recently revealed that Ryan Edwards has been allowed to parent his two children. The Teen Mom star even has overnight visits. He hasn’t participated in those visits, though.

While Ryan Edwards has argued that the mother of his two children keeps their kids from him, that is not the case. A source close to the situation recently revealed that Edwards has plenty of options to see his kids. He can even spend overnight visits with the two kids he shares with Standifer if he wants.

Reportedly, he has failed to use that parenting time. An insider who spoke with the U.S. Sun claims a judge granted Ryan Edwards overnight visits with the kids, but Edwards won’t participate in those visits because his fiancee isn’t allowed to spend the night. The kids, instead, stay with Jenn and Larry Edwards, their paternal grandparents, every other week. He leaves the house in the evening.

In an unlikely turn of events, Amanda Conner confirmed the insider’s revelation herself. Recently, Conner took to TikTok to post about picking her man up from his parents’ house. The late-night TikTok suggested Stella and Jagger were spending the night with their grandparents but that their father was opting to head home with his eventual bride. Conner is not allowed to spend time around the children.

Earlier this week, Standifer revealed she and her three children had recently moved back into the home they once shared with Edwards after renovations were completed. She had to renovate the home after Edwards’ drug-fueled break-in left the home in shambles. He ripped down appliances, smashed holes in the wall, and splattered paint in several rooms.

The 2023 incident is what led to Standifer’s decision to file for divorce and seek a restraining order. Edwards and Standifer are not yet divorced. Still, there is some hope they might be getting close to a resolution. Issues over child custody appear to be the biggest problem.

A wedding, however, is unlikely to happen before the baby arrives. He is still married to someone else at the moment, and it doesn’t look like a divorce will be finalized before February.

While Ryan Edwards insists Mackenzie Standifer is holding up the divorce process, she has a different take on the situation. Standifer insists her papers have been signed for almost two years. She is ready to move on.

Ryan Edwards insists his soon-to-be ex is being spiteful and stalling their divorce. At least, that is what he told the courts in November 2024. The U.S. Sun obtained court filings from a recent appearance. In that filing, Edwards asks a judge to set a date for mediation. In the submitted motion, the troubled reality TV star claims Standifer has refused to provide the required information in an attempt to slow the divorce process.

Standifer and Edwards have been separated for nearly two years now. Standifer filed for divorce in February 2023 after Edwards went on a drug-fueled tirade that left the home Standifer shared with her two children destroyed. Edwards was remanded to a court-ordered rehab a short time later. The rehab stint followed a slew of legal issues. That is where he met his current love, Amanda Conner. Since hooking up with Edwards, Conner has made several threatening remarks toward Standifer on social media, leading to plenty of tension.

She said she’s had her divorce papers signed for the last two years and would happily settle things right now if she could. Still, she said she would not agree to the terms she thought would create an unsafe environment for her two children.

Standifer went on to say that it is her job to protect her young children, and she’s unwilling to sign any paperwork that would put them in a dangerous or potentially traumatizing situation. When she’s not arning thousands of dollars on OnlyFans and Instagram, she’s apparently leaving scathing reviews for businesses that she may or may not have ever done business with. This week, Jenelle Evans left a strange review for a jeweler on her Facebook page, but the business claims they’ve never actually seen her in their store.

Jenelle Evans has left a review for a jewelry business that has confused followers. Earlier this week, the mother of three took to Facebook to review Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair. In her review, Evans claims she was sold “fake” jewelry by the store. She alleges this all went down when he daughter was a baby. Evans didn’t stop there, though. She also alleged the “husband” asked her out and continued to pursue her. It’s unclear whose husband she is referring to or why it would take her years to review the outfit. Ensley Eason, Evans’ only daughter, was born in 2017.

The store responded to inquiries about the review. According to one Reddit user, the jeweler insists they have never worked with Jenelle Evans and have no idea why she would suddenly feel the urge to disparage the business. They opted not to elaborate further but insisted their team was handling the situation. The post has since been removed from Evans’ page.

While it is unclear why Evans would leave a scathing review for a jeweler miles from her new Las Vegas home, fans have a theory. One fan theorized that the jeweler might be someone Evans’ soon-to-be-ex, David Eason, has worked with to buy gifts for his new love. It’s possible Evans is feeling salty about the progression of Eason’s relationship and is lashing out because of it. While it is an interesting theory, it remains unconfirmed.

Evans also left a slew of Yelp! reviews that same year. Many of them are negative. She negatively reviewed a barber shop, an addiction service provider, and others. It is unclear if she ever patronized any of the businesses, but many of her claims were outlandish.

Amber has spent several days on TikTok, hosting live events and answering questions while also filming Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. During one such live, Portwood opened up about where she stands with her daughter, Leah Shirley, and Leah’s father, Gary Shirley. Apparently, things are pretty tense. Portwood insists her ex is preventing her from spending time with her daughter.

She insists she pays her child support regularly but didn’t say whether Shirley has threatened to get lawyers involved.

The monitor was ordered to dissuade Eason from going near Jenelle Evans, her children, or her property in North Carolina. The decision stems from an arrest in November. In early November, Eason violated an order of protection by breaking into the property he once lived on with Jenelle Evans. She was not in the state at the time. Eason is expected back in court next month.

How many current court cases does David Eason have?

David Eason spends most of his free time with Kenleigh Heatwole, but he also spends a fair portion inside a courthouse. The former reality TV star has two ongoing criminal cases. He will likely begin navigating his divorce case at the beginning of the year, too.

Eason’s most serious criminal case stems from an October 2023 incident involving Jace Evans. Eason was arrested for child abuse after the teen reported that his stepfather had physically assaulted him. A felony strangulation charge was added at a later date. CPS removed Jace from the home. He returned to his mother in February 2024 after Eason moved out of their shared space.

He was arrested in November 2024 for trespassing and violating the conditions of an order of protection. In early November, Eason appeared at Jenelle Evans’ North Carolina property with a police escort, claiming he needed to gain access to his belongings. He broke the lock, removed a security camera, and attempted to take property that didn’t belong to him. Eason was taken into custody days later. He didn’t have permission to be on the property and was supposed to gather his belongings months earlier.

Eason and Evans also have other issues to sort out in court. The duo can officially file for divorce in February 2025. Evans is expected to file as soon as possible. In 2021, the former reality TV star started an online campaign to discredit Harvard’s online course offerings after she was dropped from a class she was taking. Abraham called one of the school’s writing professors “educationally abusive.”

According to Page Six, Abraham alleged a professor dropped her from an online course through Harvard Extension School after she turned in an “unproofed” class activity. Abraham claims the professor encouraged her to turn in the project and then used that project against her. She wrote reviews on Yelp and Niche before claiming she was planning to sue the institution. She received no credit for any classes she was allegedly enrolled in. Nothing ever came of her lawsuit threat.

While Abraham claims to hold multiple degrees, she has no credentials linking her to Harvard or its extension school. Her educational pursuits are a bit of a mystery, if we are being honest.

While Farrah Abraham once took out her frustration on an Ivy League institution, her current gripe is with a plastic surgeon. Last week, Abraham popped up on Yelp, claiming a plastic surgeon refused to “even out” her face after she went to the office to have previous work dissolved. Abraham claims she was treated like a “research project” before being dropped by the provider.

The surgeon was quick to respond. They suggested Abraham’s version of the story is far from what happened. Instead of treating her like a “research project,” they claim they ended the relationship because Abraham insisted on procedures that did not adhere to their medical advice. They refused to provide the procedure she was asking for. It is unclear if Abraham had an ongoing relationship with the surgeon or if she was a new patient. Abraham has not commented further on the situation.

Over the years, Abraham has had a slew of cosmetic procedures that Teen Mom fans have bristled at. From 2010 until now, she’s had a rhinoplasty, multiple breast augmentations, a Brazilian butt lift, a chin implant surgery, and a host of fillers that we are aware of. The surgeries have left her nearly unrecognizable.

While Evans and her estranged husband, David Eason, aren’t yet divorced, she is taking steps to ensure he can’t bother her or her children right now. A recent court ruling ensures that David Eason cannot contact Jenelle Evans or her children, Kaiser Griffith and Jace Evans, for a long time.

A North Carolina judge orders David Eason to steer clear of Jenelle Evans for two years

David Eason and Jenelle Evans can’t officially file for divorce yet, but Evans recently took steps to ensure her soon-to-be-ex can’t contact her. According to The Ashley Reality Roundup Group, Evans appeared in court on November 22 to request that a judge issue a new order of protection against David Eason.

A judge granted a temporary order of protection against the troubled North Carolina resident in May. Back in May, a judge told both Evans and Eason that they hoped the order would not need to be extended, hoping they would proceed with their divorce amicably. Apparently, that did not happen. The original order of protection expired in mid-November. Evans returned to court seeking further protection.

Evans argued in the latest court hearing that she was still fearful of David Eason. Her lawyer argued that Eason has continued to be menacing towards Evans and her children despite the order of protection. Her team pointed to Eason’s early November arrest for trespassing as proof that he has continued to target Evans despite police involvement. A judge agreed with Evans. Eason has been ordered to stay away from Evans for two years.

The original order included protection for Ensley Eason, the only child Evans and Eason shared. The newest order, however, does not include the 7-year-old. Eason’s ability to contact Ensley is being addressed in a separate court case. The youngster lives with her mother in Las Vegas. Eason has remained in North Carolina with his new girlfriend, Kenleigh Heatwole. It is unclear if Eason has spoken to or seen the child since his February 2024 split from Evans.

Eason currently has two criminal cases to contend with, and both of them involve the Evans family. Eason is awaiting trial for child abuse and a felony strangulation charge. Those charges are in connection to a 2023 incident involving Jace Evans, Jenelle Evans’ teen son. He is also expected back in court on trespassing charges. Leah Shirley, Amber’s oldest child, resides with her father, Gary Shirley, her stepmother, Kristina Shirley, and her half-sister, close to where her mother calls home. Gary has had primary physical custody of Leah for most of her life. While Amber is allowed visits with the now-teen, she has reportedly not exercised that right in months. Shirley and Portwood’s co-parenting relationship has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Drama recently broke out when reports suggested Kristina Shirley hoped to adopt Leah.

Portwood’s younger child, James Andrew Glennon, also resides with his father. Andrew Glennon, Portwood’s ex, who currently has custody of their son James, initially remained in Indiana following his split from Portwood. Later, he petitioned the court to allow him to move back to California. Glennon was living in California when he met Portwood; he moved to Indiana to be close to her. A judge allowed the 40-year-old to move his son to a Malibu residence owned by his family in 2022. According to People, Portwood explored options to fight the move, but nothing ever came of it.

Glennon has lived in Malibu since 2022 and enjoys a private life with his son. The couple’s romance ended in 2019 after an argument turned heated. During the fight, Portwood attacked Glennon while he held their child. She was arrested and later placed on probation.

Does Amber Portwood pay child support?

Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley are rumored to be battling over child support, with the latter claiming Portwood is not contributing to Leah’s monetary needs. An insider told Us Weekly that Portwood and Shirley never had a set legal agreement regarding child support. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though. In 2016, an Indiana judge ruled that Portwood had to provide child support for Leah. According to TMZ, the court ordered her to pay $1,200 monthly for the now-teenager. It’s unclear if Shirley ever returned to court to have that amount changed, though.

Portwood’s contribution to James Glennon’s upbringing is court-ordered. In 2022, as Glennon prepared to move back to California, a judge ordered Portwood to pay over $50,000 in pack child support. The judge also set a weekly child support amount at that time. According to The Ashley Reality Roundup Group, Portwood must send Andrew Glennon $624 weekly, or roughly $2,500 monthly. It appears that the troubled Teen Mom star is current with that obligation.
